ON CHILD SACRIFICE

WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT’S RESOLUTION ON CHILD SACRIFICE?

There are national issues that the government needs to bring to consideration as priorities rather than politics. My country (mine because I am a patriot without ego) is losing her name to shameless acts such as child sacrifice! I would we put ourselves in the shoes of the parents who lose their beloved children to greedy people, who offer a juvenile’s life to the traditional healers. The parents live in tension when their children are away in school, or down stream to collect water or somewhere in the trading centre to buy some salt.

Shamefully, no ‘Big voice’ has come up fearlessly, to condemn the act and above all to lay strategies that can freeze the acts of child sacrifice! We hear these voices raised in politics, in Oil Mining, in land give-away to the so called investors, in NAADS but certainly, the acts of child sacrifice have swallowed these voices. Absurd! Do the leaders of my country know that as they boast of a good GDP, Good governance and improved average standards of living, do they know that there are several defenseless children losing their lives to several shrines around? The shrines should be made public if they can not be abandoned, so that those who claim they sacrifice animals other than human life should do so publicly to people willing to witness and prove it so.

I sometimes feel writing alone is not enough because no one knows the emotions with which one writes. The government that cares about the well being of its citizens does not keep silent when such atrocities are done. People have written enough, and more people are yet to write; but what I wonder is, do these leaders ever read the letters that the concerned citizens write? If so, do they read with the right intonation the letter bears and the emotions with which the writers write; or do they just read and shudder? It hurts. One reaction from the top voices could save the lives of the children who are the adults of tomorrow.
